Built in 1889 by lumber baron Robert L. McCormick, the Northern Wisconsin Lumber Company office building was immediately striking - an architectural statement in the 19th century town of Hayward.
A reporter for the North Wisconsin News described the interior in an Oct. 12, 1889 article; "By the politeness of Capt. Rogers we were shown through the Company's elegant new office a few days since...here was also the lower story with large fire-proof vault which will be used for storing valuable books and records. We passed up a flight of stairs and came to the business floor of the building....besides the elegant suite of rooms in front which will probably be appropriate quarters fro the non-resident members of the firm when they visit Hayward."
This is just a glimpse of the history of our beloved Angry Minnow. If only the walls could talk!
